2022 Cast

Bernie Slaven
Ken

I arrived on Teesside Back in 1985 when I joined Middlesbrough Football Club. The Parmo’s, cooling towers, steel and football were prominent. I left a working class background in Glasgow, to join the working class people of Teesside. As an adopted Tees-sider I fell honoured and privileged  to be involved in the cast of Steel and Iron.

Looking back at my football career, I achieved everything I set out to. When I arrived on Teesside, I had set targets to become a full time professional, to play in the top division, play at Wembley and gain International recognition. All my dreams were fulfilled, while playing at Middlesbrough Football club between 1984/85-1992, I went onto play 382 games for Middlesbrough, scoring 147 goals. And as it stands today I remain the last player to score 20 league goals for the club. I earned 7 Republic of Ireland caps and was part of the Ireland World Cup squad 1990 in Italy. Only 10 players in Middlesbrough FC history have scored 100 goals or more, guys like Clough, Campsell, Peacock , Mannion and to be part of this elite club makes me proud, honoured and privileged, to be in such illustrious company.
